When I first encountered this series of works, the red-veined surfaces appeared to breathe silently. The fibers of meat, the cross-sections of fat, the translucent layers—under the light, they glimmered with a sheen that felt both tangible and distant. In that moment, what came to mind was not food, but memory—something rooted in family, and in the deeper architecture of life itself. The artist’s parents once ran a yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurant in Tokyo. For years, their days were sliced into endless repetitions: purchasing, cutting, weighing, smoke and flame... The artist once displayed stacks of old beef purchase tickets—receipts that, over time, became a record not only of economic exchange, but also of labor’s rhythm and the warmth of parental devotion.

This exhibition, titled Chronicle of Cross-Sections, begins with the imagery of“meat,”yet extends toward a far more intricate narrative about family, memory, and identity. Through repetition, the artist paints these cross-sections as if conducting a kind of visual archaeology. Each layer is a slice of the past—each brushstroke, both a recollection and an act of repair. Instead of portraying his parents directly, he magnifies the textures of these ingredients, allowing us to feel the warmth of labor and glimpse the contours of home.

Beneath the surface lies a metaphor of the“mother body”and the “offspring.”The maternal body serves as a source of nourishment—it may be the heat of the kitchen, the tone of a spoken language, or the invisible scaffolding of cultural inheritance. To grow, the offspring must depart, yet also return. The artist’s creative act unfolds within this tension: through repetition, reconstruction, and layering, experience is reborn within a new context.

Here, art becomes a gesture of return. With canvas, resin, and pigment, the artist fabricates a“regenerated flesh”—a body of images suspended in translucence, where his parents’world is translated into his own visual language. It is not imitation, nor nostalgia, but a cultural reconstruction distilled from lived, bodily experience. This reconstruction is, in essence, a form of intergenerational migration. Growing up across multiple cultural landscapes, the artist is destined to seek the self between shifting systems. His work becomes not only a visualization of personal memory, but also an experiment in translation: how can the scent of a culture, the rhythm of a life, the texture of emotion be transformed into a visual language that transcends borders? In this sense, the artist is both translator and translated.

初めてこの作品群に向き合ったとき、赤い筋を帯びた画面は、まるで静かに呼吸しているかのように感じられた。肉の繊維、脂肪の断面、半透明の層——それらは光を受けて、確かさと遠さが同時に宿るような光沢を放つ。その瞬間に思い浮かんだのは、食べ物ではなく「記憶」だった。家族に根ざし、さらには生命の深層構造にまでつながる何かである。

アーティストの両親は、かつて東京で焼肉店を営んでいた。仕入れ、切断、計量、立ちのぼる煙と炎——長年、彼らの日々は果てしない反復の連続だった。アーティストは、古い牛肉の仕入伝票を束ねた作品を展示したことがある。経済的取引を記録する紙片は、時間のうちに、働きのリズムと両親のぬくもりまでも刻み込む記録へと変わっていった。

本展「断面誌（Chronicle of Cross-Sections）」は、「肉」というイメージから出発し、家族・記憶・アイデンティティへと広がる、より精緻で多層的な物語を描く。アーティストは反復を通して、これらの断面を一種の「視覚的考古学」として描き出す。重なる層は過去の断片であり、一筆一筆が追憶であると同時に、修復の行為でもある。両親そのものを描くのではなく、素材の質感を極限まで拡大することで、働く手の温度や家庭の輪郭を私たちに感じさせる。

作品の奥には、「母体」と「子」という隠喩が潜んでいる。母体は養分の源であり、それは台所の熱気であり、話し言葉の響きであり、文化の見えない骨格でもある。子は成長するために離れなければならず、同時に帰らなければならない。この緊張のあいだで、アーティストの創作は展開する。反復・再構築・層化を通して、経験は新たな文脈において再び息を吹き返す。

ここで、アートは「帰還の身振り」となる。キャンバス、樹脂、顔料を用いて、アーティストは半透明の層に浮かぶ「再生された肉体」を造り上げる。そこでは、両親の世界がアーティスト自身の視覚言語へと翻訳されていく。それは模倣でも懐古でもなく、身体を通して蓄積された文化を再編する行為である。この再編こそが、ある種の「世代間移動（intergenerational migration）」でもある。

複数の文化的環境で育ったアーティストは、移ろう体系のあいだで自己を探し続ける運命にある。作品は個人的記憶の可視化であると同時に、翻訳の試みでもある。文化の匂い、生活のリズム、感情の手触りは、どのように境界を越える視覚言語へと変換されうるのか。この意味において、アーティストは「翻訳者」であり、同時に「翻訳される存在」でもある。
